newbie in need of help...

i'm really REALLY new to message boards. i am having problems with my '96 civic dx starting. i would like to find the answer to this question by searching the board, but i'm not sure what keywords or phrases to use to find answers. any help you can give me in either finding the answer myself, or help you can directly give me would be greatly appreciated.

Re: newbie in need of help...

car has power, cranks, sparks, fuel, will not start, however will push start.
Replaced distributor, plugs, cap, wires, fuel filter, fuel pump. Could it be the pcv valve? or the fuel pressure regulator?

is your blinker fluid full? how about your muffler bearings, have they had they're 30k mile check-and-lube? if those bearings fall into the exhaust path, it could get clogged and not allow the car to start.

the battery and alternator are both good, we did a compression test on it and came to the conclusion that the piston rings are gone. It holds no compression. So to everybody having this problem I would highly suggest a compression test as soon as possible.

Re: newbie in need of help...

assuming the engine had low or no compression at all, and cam timing is in spec and camshafts are not broken, then, a push start still would not make it start.

if it had very low or no compression at all, it would not start under any circumstance.

i just found it kinda strange.

anyhow, good luck.
