Question for them who knows.honda accord 2000.help

I have a 2000 honda accord ex v6.I recently changed the tranny fluid.the lady in the store told me i could use dexronIII and mercon.they didnt have any honda tranny fluid. any ways,my tranny was running good for a whyle untill all of a sudden it started slipping and shifting roughly and it got a little noisy.can this be because of the new fluid i used.can i use this type of fluid on my tranny.anyone.does any one know if this is the right fluid for my transmission.

there is times when it goes back to normal,but not al normal.runs good then bad.good then a little slipping.no sliping ,but no power. sometimes it feels like there is something holding back the car.feels like a heavy load.

Probably not the fluid unless you over filled the tranny. There have been many reports of premature failure of these transmissions. Call American Honda and see if yours qualifies for replacement. They will need your VIN number or you could talk to a Honda dealer.

[94 Accord]

I'm not sure if it takes dexron II or dexron III on the 2000 Accords. I work at Pepboys and I can find out tomorrow and let you know. I know my 94 Accord says it takes dexron II. I only use Genuine Honada ATF in my 94 Accord. Just like mpumas I heard that some of the 6th gen V6 Accords have transmission problems so that might be it too. There is a recall on some of them or something like that. You should try changing the fluid back to Genuine Honda ATF and make sure the level is correct. Not too low or not overfilled. See what that does. If the problem is still there then take it in to the dealer it might be covered. Goodluck

Honda DOES NOT recommend the use of any Dextron fluid. They say that it is only to be used if its an emergency and you can drain it and fill it with Honda fluid. The addatives in Dextron -vs- Honda fluid are different and Dextron has been known to cause shifting problems in Honda tranny's. I advise you get it out and replace it with Honda fluid.

lorunner-re transmission fluid. Honda doesn't say that the use of Dextron will cause damage to the transmission only that it will causing shifting changes, i.e rougher shifting. So I guess if want smoother shifting, use Honda fluid.

Honda is very stong in their feelings about the power steering fluid though. They say that any fluid other the Hondas' will damage the unit.

Yes thats how my tranny shifs.it shifts roughter ..i think honda fluid does give u smother shifting.i guess ill change it back to honda premium .thankz for the help dog

Actually if you look at the owners manual Honda does say and i qoute

"ATF). If it is not available, you
may use a DEXRON® III
automatic transmission fluid as a
temporary replacement. However,
continued use can affect shift
quality. Have the transmission
drained and refilled with Honda
ATF as soon as it is convenient."

So that tells me that they do frown on the use of Dextroon for prolonged periods of time.
