Question 99' V8 EB pinging ang Knocking....

Engine is pinging and knocking while Accelorating or under load...idles fine..seems worse when on highway going 50 mph or more and need pass or maintain speed while going up & down hill/rd. Doesn't do it in city driving. Just had induction service and that didn't cure the problem.Thought about changing plugs & wires but was told I didn't need to until 100k. Car has 75k as of now.
any suggestions would be great.

Some of the late 90's V8's ping - usually in overdrive when the torque converter is locked up, beween say 1800 rpm and 2600 rpm, when climbing hills or accelerating to pass.

I had to replace a bad fuel injector a while back, and decided to chase the ping problem. I tried:

new gaskets in upper intake manifold/throttle body
cleaned throttle body
new plugs (one range colder)
new plug wires
cleaned MAF
checked EGR valve, DPFE, all ok
new coolant temp sensor
cleaned injectors

None of that worked. It could be a bad MAF, but I do not have a scanner, and have not gone further with it yet. But I think it will take some more advanced diagnosis to nail - its not easy to nail down.
I have seen some other people with this issue, but they had no answer either.

If you have pinging at other speeds or in lower gears, clean your MAF (instructions can be found on the web) and try a new set of plugs - pretty sure your manual says to do plugs at 50k. Do not use the Bosch +2 or +4 plugs - they will make it worse. Motorcraft platinums will work well.

I have been thinking I should ask Way Too Old if he has anything on V8's pinging in OASIS at his shop, but have not seen him here for awhile. Maybe he will reappear with his crystal ball and have an idea.

Try cleaning the MAF sensor filaments or replace the MAF sensor. I have had a number of Fords where just spraying some Electric Contact cleaner (Radio Shack, $11) does the trick. Do this every few months. You may need a special bit to open the MAF sensor, some use a Torx shape with an anti-tamper piece in the center (Sears, $2.50).

Are you talking about the where the harness connects to the maf sensor or inside the maf sensor itself?
