Luggage rack 2000 trooper
Need a luggage rack for my wifes Trooper before Christmas. Any ideas on the best one at the best price? I heard the U.S dosen't sell them because of tipover risk. Anyone have a problem with stability after roof rack install. Thanks

I'm sure there is aftermarket racks, or basket style racks avail. online thru truck accessory outfits or thru eBay. Dunno about the tip over thing as you can't load much weight on top w/out collapsing the roof.

Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to go with a Thule rack just checking out the prices.

Re: Luggage rack 2000 trooper
I have the Yakima load warrior luggage rack sitting on Yakima cross bars, and basemounts, it states to only load 200#, but I've had at least 300# during one time this past summer.
I also have the OEM flimsy luggage rack on my Rodeo, but I had my doubts of it holding weight well, and the bars are not far enough off the roof to really want to put weight on them. The one time I did, it pushed down the roof in the back of the truck - 5yrs ago, and it still hasn't popped back up. For the Yakima basemounts, cross bars, and the warrior basket, I paid $350 and had them install it for another $35 at Rack Attack in Denver. We have used this system religiously and find that it's one of the best additions for this SUV with limited space after putting the kids and dogs in the truck. No more trying to finagle everything - just throw most of it in the rack up top.

Re: Luggage rack 2000 trooper
How do the base mounts attach? I'm looking for something like what you have, ramblin fever, but the thule and yakima sites are kinda confusing. I know the Trooper has some attachment points under the rain seal but it doesn't look like either of the thule or yakima utilizes them. Can you post some pics or part numbers of your base mounts and bars or explain how they are attached? Thanks for the info!

Re: Luggage rack 2000 trooper
Ok, here goes - mind you though, these are part#'s for the Rodeo from Rack Attack. This is the Yakima set-up.
#200105 Q-tower $125.00 #200029 Q clip 29 pair $25.00 #200043 Q clip 43 pair $25.00 #200409 Yakima 58" crossbars $50.00 +________ $225.00 The Q clip (clips that go inside door seal) sizes, i.e 29 & 43 may not be the sizes that you need. But they do come 2/pair. The 58" crossbars were my choice, 52" bars were the size listed for my Rodeo, but I wanted a size or so bigger so that I can transfer the set-up from my Rodeo to the Diesel cummins if I wanted - I don't believe the price was any different, but not positive. The Loadwarrior Rack is normally listed for $375 & instert extension is $100 IIRC; but got mine used & half off at Rack Attack store in Denver for $250 total. You may be able to find a rack that attaches to the Yakima bars for cheaper price though; if I hadn't walked in at the right time that one (Loadwarrior rack) was sitting half off, I wouldn't have bought that particular brand. They are nice looking, but very $$$$. Forgot to add, my basemounts attach inside the door seals/frame, they are NOT permanent and easily removable with no screws/bolts etc into the roof. I didn't want a permanent set-up as I wanted it to be as universale, i.e moveable from one vehicle to the other, as possible. The ONLY difference from my Rodeo to the Diesel is the size of the Q clips for the door seals, which are only $50.00/vehicle once you've purchased the whole set-up. Just remember, if this is something you're wanting to do as well, give double thought at the size of the crossbars - you don't want too big, nor too small for the other vehicle.

Re: Luggage rack 2000 trooper
Thanks for the info. Have you had any problems with the Qclips scratching or leaving any sign of their use on the door frames/roof?

Re: Luggage rack 2000 trooper
Haven't taken them off since I installed it over a year ago. It's not something I want to continuously mount/dismount; I did take off the rack for the winter, but left the crossbars on. If ever I need to use them on my other truck, or part with the Rodeo, then I'll take em off, obviously.
