94' Corolla engine was flooded in heavy rainfall and won't start, what to do?
Hey there, I am posting this just in case for those who might face the same problem i had here in Florida, where engine sucks in water through the Cold Air Intake, Short Intake or Stock one, and won't start.
*****First of ALL**** If this happens to you, DO NOT TRY to restart your car by accelerating or giving some gas, MAINLY WITH MANUAL TRANNY, why?? If you engine sucks the water in through your air intake, and you restart it by giving gas this is what will happen: 1. One of the Pistons or all will break 2. If nor pistons than big whole will appear on your engine 3. Or other engine internal breakdowns So, best of all just get out of your car and push it out of water to any dry place and away from the traffic. Do not rist it, believe me, it doen't worth trying to kill your engine. HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM: 1. Pop the hood open 2. Unplug your spark plug wires from your engine (not the distributor) 3. Remove your spark plugs (use special nut socket that has a rubber piece inside, or else you will struggle pull the spark plugs out) 4. Clean you spark plugs + spark plug wires 5. Keep spark plug wires and spark plugs disconnected from you engine cover, Put your wires aside but do not disconnect from distributor. 6. Do not REMOVE your battery 7. Leave you hood open and go inside of your car to start it 8. All the water inside of your engine will spit out like a fountan 9. Do it as many times untill no water will come out and the smell and tiny drops of fuel will come out of your spark plug holes 10. IF POSSIBLE, replace spark plug and spark plug wires with a new one's ( I took my chances and seems like spark plugs and wires work fine) 11. Reconnect the wires and spark plugs back 12. Start the car again and you will hear your starter will spin but the car may not start 13. NOW, try to restart your car by accelerating, if not succeded than most likely your battery is dead. Recharge your battery or use jumper cables to start your car. 14. WOW, your car is running now 15. CHECK YOUR ENGINE OIL and REPLACE IT AS SOON AD POSSIBLE (you may have to do it the second time in some period of time if the il get dirty too fast) TO THOSE WHO WILL TRY TO start their car while the engine is flooded by accelerating, YOU can be sure that there some kind of internal engine problem already (very costly to take your engine apart, fix it and put it back together, so KEEP this in mind) GOOD LUCK (hey i got lucky, there, friend of mine tried this and has broken one piston) |
