Cool Re: both turn signals and hazzard lights failed

Hello,

This may be too late to an old posted problem, but will add this anyway.

I had a problem there, and it was not anything you would normally do.

I had to wiggle the hazzard switch...get it in the right spot, then everything would work again!! infact I have a pen cap in it to keep it in the forward position..this allows all lights to work. It seems to be a common
GM thing...
Good luck to those who may read this

Cool Re: both turn signals and hazzard lights failed

Hello Again,
Umm first I need to understand one thing, Did you try the
trick I mentioned? If so, I am assuming that it was it and you found that
if the hazzard swiitch is in a special "spot" everything else will work, brake lights...directionals...etc??? Well, this is all I can tell you and help you with,
I sprayed mine with an electronic cleaner and removed the pen cap holding the hazzard switch forward...So far all is working. I have NEVER and will NEVER touch the hazzard switch even if I need it! Perhaps someone out there has gone deeper into this matter, if so I would also like to know what
they say. Wish I could help you more. Please keep me in the loop if someone
responds with a cool solution to this matter ...Thanks and Good LUCK!
Doug

Re: both turn signals and hazzard lights failed

The hazzard switch is built into the multifunction switch. This switch can be bought at just about any parts store for about $150. The grease used in the switches eventually runs down into the contacts, shorting them out and causing improper operation.

If the hazzard button itself is physically broken, it can be replaced. The chevy dealer sells a replacement button for less than $20. Here's the replacement procedure for a broken button:

Re: both turn signals and hazzard lights failed

I know that I'm a little late to this party, but I had the same problem on my 2000 Jimmy SLT. Take the Jimmy to a dealer and get the recall fixed. There was a voluntary recall on this issue, but GM was not obliged to notify owners. Have the dealer run the VIN and see if it was ever done. If it wasn't it's a free repair. I only found out about this after I was pulled over by a cop for no brake lights.

exactly right !!! this was the exact symptom for the blazer/jimmy recall 6 months after i bought my 01 brand new. it is actually a fire in the steering column(?) and the recall was for a lot of vehicles from gm. i was nofified by the delership to get it done at no cost asap,it got picked up by the media, and the NHTSI and consumer reports jumped on it. i did the same thing, found out that jamming a pen cap to the right on the flasher switch worked, but the recall fixed it and no trouble since, 5 years and still going.
