Can't remember for sure, been a year since i've had mine out, but since i've designed many castings I will tell you the three most likely places the casting number will be, (it will be cast in, not stamped with a metal style punch). There will be a stamped in number somewhere, but that will be a machining number, thats not what they are giving you here, its common to use one casting machined different ways for different applications (less common in engine blocks).

#1 - on the top of triangle used for the passanger side motor mount
#2 - on the verticle face in front of the starter (transmission side)
#3 - on the front side of the oil pan lip (front of car side)

most likely its going to be on a flat surface to reduce wear on the casting tooling (if at all possible), they will want to put it on a side of the motor you can see with the engine in the car.

The head casting number is on the passanger side (motor mount side) that should help identify the motor unless they put another year head on the replacement motor. (hope this helps)

anyone know for sure???
