Headlight and Airbag light

So I'm drivin around, airbag light starts coming on. I check the battery and it's fine and figure I'll just ignore it. So then I go to goto the store last night, the headlights both go out. AND my sub's in the trunk aren't working. So now I'm really thinking "greeeeeat more problems right before christmas." I bust out the ole, barely used, multimeter and there's 12.4volts at the plug. I might be doing it wrong, that's set on 20V--- with the lil ____ underneath it. I had changed my bulbs to silverstars a little over a month ago. I bust out my stock bulbs and put those in and they work so I figure the silverstars just blew, look at'em and they have just blown. So I goto fix my stereo, I check the headlights again when I sit back in the car to marvel at my awesomeness in the fixed headlights, I check the high beams and out goes the driverside bulb. I flicker them a few times and the passenger side stays on but I'm sure when I go to goto work tonight it'll go out too, leaving me with no headlights for my nice drive to work. Fuses are fine, neither socket looked fried. Nothing special has been done or happened to the car in a good long while. Brake lights work...I guess, side markers work for sure. Any ideas before I drive her into a tree and go try and buy something new?

Re: Headlight and Airbag light

Do you like the silverstars? Are they brighter than say regular halogens? I almost bought some but the price was so high I just went with the halogen.
Your subs have such a high current draw that they are causing voltage spikes in your elctrical system burning out your lights. If you go to a good parts store they will sell an item that goes between the battery source and your amplifiers. I'm thinking it is called a capacitor but I'm not sure. Just tell them what it's doing and they'll know what you need. Do your lights get dim when you crank it up? This will solve that, too.

Re: Re: Headlight and Airbag light

yea I know all about that, thing is the system was at about half power when it happened, and it was damn near off the second time. Also the amp was in overload when it happened, so the subs weren't even kicking. I've yet to have a problem with the lights diming from the subs which is why I haven't gotta a cap(capacitor sp?) yet. I ran'em in my firebird for 3yrs no prob, I know that the firebird has a 105amp alt and the escort has a 60amp but I still have yet to have a problem in the escort with them, no lights diming, no battery problems, nothing and I've had'em in for a few months now.

I did like the silverstars before they friggin burned out. They were definatly brighter then regular bulbs. Now that I think about it when I installed the silverstars I got some of that bulb grease that you put in the socket, I wonder if that would cause a problem....

I brought my firebird out of retirement because of this and I really can not drive it for the winter, it's the exact opposite of a winter car and needs a good amount of work so please someone come up with a miracle answer to yet another annoying Ford problem.
