1999 Nissan Cefiro 2.5 S-Touring (Neo DI)

Problem: Engine "pinking" under moderate acceleration. Have compared computer system with a similar model to check for errors. May have found an error but technician not sure whether this is causing the problem. Have been advised to try another ECU unit. Has anyone got suggestions as to what might cause the "Pinking"?, and also solutions to the problem???

Pinging is a term used of too early ignition; Common causes:
- bad gas (get better)
- dirty engine (clean; seafoam or water injection)
- dirty engine due to broken piston oil ring (long story)
- ign too advanced (first verify timing)

...those may have various reasons, mechanical & electric. ECU is the last one in the list.

Swap plugs, compare their looks on what u see at www.ngk.com trouble chart.

What does the error code say???
