I put the power window down today on my 1997 Grand Marquis and it will not go up or down now. As a matter of fact, none of the windows are working. We assumed it was a fuse, looked in our book that came with the car, and it said that we needed a 20 amp fuse in space 14. Well, there is no space 14 to put a fuse into and none of the slots use a 20 amp fuse. Mostly all of them are 15 or 30. Does anyone have any suggestions? I wondered if the motor could have gone out that abruptly?

Re: Power Windows suddenly quit working
Well you are looking into the right section ( Power related ) from the sounds of it, but your book says it's a 20 amp fuse for power windows? most common that I have seen for power windows has been 30amp fuses. It could also be a blown fuselink and those are out at the starter relay on the fenderwell by the battery.

If not, there's another possibility that you have a bad power window relay. The relay might be somewhere different from the fuses. When you find the relay center (I'm sorry, I do not know where it would be located in a Mercury) there should be a label next to the relays so you will know which one to check. Also, do the windows not work from all 4 doors? If they work everywhere but the driver door, it could be a switch...but that is unlikely |

Re: Power Windows suddenly quit working
I don't understand why the power windows on these cars just quit. Mine did the same thing. However, I got the reg and the motors replaced in every window. They all work now, but I CAN'T roll up the windows at the same time or they will stop and get stuck. Its the most rediculous thing. Does anyone know whats wrong?

i replaced the window hardware on my 92 96 and 99. thats 12 windows. motors and those sliders. they're all the same and a pain in the are you getting 12 volts to the driverside console? if i remember right you just wedge it out with a screwdriver """Also, do the windows not work from all 4 doors? If they work everywhere but the driver door, it could be a switch...but that is unlikely""" if they only work on the driver door you might have your windows lock! childpoof buttom |
