junkyard b18b

hey guys i was wondering since i am going to be shopping around in a junkyard for a b18b engine for my brothers civic....i wanted to know if you guys can tell me things to check on the motor and tranny 2 make sure its not a p.o.s... and please give me as much detail as possible and tell me what do you think is the max i should spend for a junkyard b18b engine. thanks

well for a d16z6 i'm paying 250-500 depending on the guys mood that's for engine and tranny, i guess it depends on if the guy knows what he has or not.
a guy last wek told me that he had a vtec b18 in a old teg it was non-vtec and he still tried ot charge me for the v-tec motor, fuck that.

as for engine health is concerned. only a compression and leakdown will tell you that.

Well, I'll keep it short since I don't have a lot of time. Seem's obvious, but I'd want to know the compression in the 4 cylinders in any motor I bought, that and I'd want to know the mileage on it...so I'd compression test any motor before I bought it.
