Rear view mirror question

I want to know if i can put a one of the rear view mirrors with the comp/temp on my 99 z71?

I searched some old threads and someone said that the wiring is in the head liner but what do you have to do about the temp. sensor? Is it all ready there or do i have to put one in?
Thanks

I think I read somewhere that on the 99's they put the temp sensor on all of them. It should be up by the front end by the grille.

I hate to highjack your thread but I have the temp/compass mirror on my '02 and it did something the other day that puzzled me. According the the temp guage it was 34 degrees outside, but it kept flashing back and forth from "ice" to the temp. I have seen that before but it would also flash to what looked like a test view in which all LEDs were lit. I was playing around with it and noticed that if I turned on my wipers it would go back to normal but it was not raining or icy out. Anyone else seen this???

It flashes ice when it thinks that conditions are cold enough that there could be ice present. Mine does it too above 32 degrees when no ice is present.

Re: Rear view mirror question

I stole the rear view mirror out of my buddy's '04 2500HD to put in my '00 1500 and the wiring harness does not match up. My truck harness is a single row of wires but my friends mirror has two rows of wires. Can someone explain?

Re: Rear view mirror question

For the original post:
the wiring for the temp. sensor may be in place, but you'll have to buy a sensor at a dealer or salvage yard. The temp sensor is pins 6&7 in the connector.

For the guy cutting into this post:
GM went from a 7 pin connector to a 16 pin connector when they added OnStar and other features. Truck changed in 2003 I think.

7 Pin:
1 - 12V ignition (closest to the mounting stem)
2 - ground
3 - reverse override (turns off the dimming feature when in reverse - doesn't need to be connected)
4 - outside mirror +
5 - outside mirror -
6 - temp sensor +
7 - temp sensor -

16 Pin: connectors are numbered inside
5 - outside mirror +
6 - temp sensor +
7 - temp sensor -
8 - ground
9 - reverse override
13 - 12V ign
16 - outside mirror -

Good luck

No, He doesn't have OnStar. It has the 16 pin connection but my truck has only 7 connection.
