Cobalt keyless entry?

Hey Ya'll,
I am helping my nephew get his first car. He has his heart set on the Chevy Cobalt. My question is: Is LS model pre-wired for keyless entry? Can we just buy the factory keyless components and install it our selves? I saved $500 on my Tundra pickup by installing foglights because it was already pre-wired for them. The dealer wanted $700 and told me it was not pre-wired. I asked him what those 2 plugs were behind the front bumper were, he had a funny look on his face. It took me 20 minutes to install the foglights on my Tundra. Well anyway, I'm trying to save my nephew some money. Thanks in advance!

Re: Cobalt keyless entry?

I doubt you'll get much out of any Cobalt owners on this one. That's not something too many people are going to know about that. Try getting ahold of GM about this one man.

Sorry I could'nt be more helpful.

Re: Cobalt keyless entry?

If the car isnt already equipped with a keyless entry then I dont see why the would prewire due to the fact that any chevy dealer can get the same car u want already installed. Now if its an "option" then i would think it would be prewired.

Re: Cobalt keyless entry?

The keyless entry function would have to be programmed into the computer module when the car was produced. If the car wasn't equipped with keyless as an option when new, then you would have to purchase a new PCM and have it programmed to accept keyless entry. The PCM is kind of a one shot deal, it can't be reprogrammed to accept keyless entry.

The least expensive avenue for you to take would be to purchase an aftermarket keyless entry out of the JC Whitney catalog for $39.95 and install it yourself. This unit is very basic and will not honk the horn or flash the lights, but it is very reliable and will lock and unlock the car as well as 'pop' the trunk.

Re: Cobalt keyless entry?

It's no big deal if it came from the factory with keyless entry or if you buy onon the lot that don't have it and you tell them you want it. Under the hood in that little black fuse and relay box there is a place to plug up the reciever for the keyless entry. All this comes in a neet little plastic bag with two key fobs and if you need more you can get up to two extra fobs.Plug in the reciever, hook up a wire, put the batteries in the fobs and hook up the little brain to the car and go through the steps to program up to four fobs to a car to unlock the doors, blink the headlights and open the trunk all for a sum to be paid to your local GM dealer.

Re: Cobalt keyless entry?

Most stock LS models that they have at the dealers are already equiped with Keyless entry. I believe they are standard on the LT.
