01 Impala fan only works on #5 setting, 1 thru 4 don't work...
Unfortunately I have had some water behind my firewall due to a clogged drain. This probably has loaded up and may be damaged the fan. Good news, the drain plug is no longer clogged. Bad news, my fan only works on #5. Any ideas? Possible fuse? May be it will work after drying out.?
Thanks. Keith |

Re: 01 Impala fan only works on #5 setting, 1 thru 4 don't work...
If you have a manual HVAC system, it's classic blower motor resistor. Water leaking in through bad cowling seal, etc. will drip down onto the blower motor, blower motor resistor and wiring. Positions 1 - 4 from the HVAC head unit feeds to the resistor matrix to vary the blower motor speed. In position 5 the resistor is bypassed and the blower motor is fed direct battery power via the HVAC HI speed relay so the blower itself is probably OK.
