2006 TDI starting problem

After stalling a couple of times in traffic I've had problems starting the engine. Also noticed same problems once or twice starting the car after driving. I wait for the glow plug light to go out and push key, but the engine does not turn over. After four or five attempts (minute or two) can start, but until then silence. Is this normal with a brand new diesel ?

Re: 2006 TDI starting problem

new passat doesnt come with tdi here in us. I would say you need to check where u fuel up. new pumpe duce tdis are extreemly anal about diesel fuel quality.

Re: 2006 TDI starting problem

I have a 2005 TDI, I have had 2 instances in very cold weather that it sounded weak to start, but I let it sit for a few seconds and it started right up. Fuel may be responsible because laws were passed (in the states) allowing for worse diesel to be produced to meet the demand. I would recommend changing fuel stations. I would automatically assume that your glow plugs are not getting juice from a malfunction in the ignition. Can you please post back to this when you find or correct the problem in case it happens to me or other TDI owners.

there is an update bulletin for hard starting on pumpe duce engines check to see if your car applies

Re: 2006 TDI starting problem

you may want to check with the dealer to see if your car has any open "required vehicle updates" because some new tdi's are having problems with intake flap motors that are getting stuck. i have also had an 06 tdi that had an egr valve that was sticking open causing the exact same problems as your car. the only problem is that it took almost a month for the new egr valve to get here from germany.
