I am wanting to learn how to change my front struts but all of the spring compressors that I have tried have all failed me. Has anyone ever done this at home? if so can someone send me a picture of the correct spring compressor to use if i need a compressor to change out the front struts. I refuse to take it to a shop when I have the will to learn and do it my self.

Re: Changing Front Strut
Im All About Doing The Struts Yourself. From What I Understand, There Shouldn't Be Much To It. As To The Compressor I Would Like To Know Myself.

That is correct. Most cheap ones are two-piece units, like a long bolt with steel teeth on each end.

Re: Re: Re: Changing Front Strut
The strut compressors I have seen. Are a set of 2, where 1 go on each side of the strut spring. And you tighten each one compressing the spring.

If you have an Autozone nearby, you can get a loaner. That is what I used to do mine. Just the basic universal type...couple of clamp/collars and long bolts. Make sure you have a factory manual or subscription t alldata to get the correct torque specs. Then, make sure you get it aligned.
best of luck.... |
