01 Impala heater blower resistor

Hello, can anyone tell me exactly where I should be looking on the heater box to find this? Thank you

To get to the blower motor resistor you have to remove the blower motor which is located on the passenger side under the dash. BMR is located inside the ducting to the rear. This is applicable to a manual HVAC system only. If you have a digital climate control system it's a blower motor control module. See pic below with blower motor removed.

That's exactly where I though it was. It didn't look like the correct part to me because the dealership sold me the incorrect part. Thank you for your help..

are you sure the resistor is the problem?

on my other car, all of the fan settings didnt work other than high, but the resistor checked out fine.. it was acually the switch itself...

a little bit of wd40 sprayed on it fixed it right up.

Yeah, I'm sure. I actually picked another heater switch up at the junk yard and still only 3 thru 5 working.

I have the same problem as other person with my 2001 Impala ( Heater works only on 5 ). you suggested to spray WD40. where about to be sprayed?

Is the blower motor relay also in the photo attached to the BMR? This is that old cowl water leak issue again -- it's possible that water will also enter the high speed relay case and corrode the contacts so that none of the settings will work.

In my '01 LS, the persistent water leak first killed speeds 1-4, then eventually 5 -- if I apply power directly to the blower motor feed it works, but the whole BMR appears to be a dead dog.

I gave the dealer one shot at fixing the leak (they did the case drain cleaning thing) -- fail -- since they also changed the BMR at that time, the new BMR quickly died. Since then, the windshield has been replaced for a different reason ($219@SafeLite) and the leak appears to have been fixed, but it hasn't rained enough since the repair to claim success yet.

Before I apply the repair to the BMR myself, I may apply some mods to the blower case while I'm in there to make sure that any water stays away from the BMR -- maybe drilling some drain holes in the case to direct the water away from the BMR or at least prevent a puddle from forming in the case.

The use of a cabin air filter will help with the water intrusion issue. Get one for a similar year Buick Regal if they have no listing for your Impala. The Grand Prix is the same way, the spot is there, but GM never installed one from the factory. The one for a Regal fits perfectly.

Yes.

* You should also notice that the resistor and the relay are a single assembly (part) -- the resistor is the circuit-board-loooking card that is inside the blower case and the relay is the little box that is outboard of the case.

ok thanks that part is easy to change the picture help and the part cost me $29.00 and the labor i did it my self less than 2 hours had it done. it fix my problem, my problem was that when i put the AC on level 1 or 2 it didnt work at first level 1 when out and like two weeks ago level 2 when out too and level 3 was to cold so i need it to fix it , so now it works i thank this forum and and everybody in this tread !!!!!!!!
