New owner...not so sure now ?
Suppose to pick up my 99 LT 1500 tomorrow. It has 62k on it, runs very quiet, and has no rust any where on it. However after reading some of these post I'm a little bit hesitant on signing for it now. The vehicle seems to run so well now, that I'm thinking the fuel pump and intake problems are just waiting for me. Also the fuel pump doesn't seem to making any noise at all ? The transmission has a hard shift from 1 to 2, dealer said that previous owner installed a " shift assist "
to help with towing. I read on here that it may well be, a common defect of the transmission. The electric locks don't work, dealer is installing new acuators. I guess my concern is that coupled with the problems I am aware of, and those I very well can expect is vehicle worth the aggravation in the long run. 4 kids and wife love the room and looks of the burb. Any comments would be welcomed before I go thru buyers remorse...lol |

Re: New owner...not so sure now ?
I would make sure all of the problem that it currently has are fixed by the dealer. Other than that you will have problem with any vehicle. I have a 99 burb and it is currently going to the dealer for a new intake gasket. (at least thats what it appears to be). That has been the only problem in about 1.5 years. Before I bought the burb I had a 99 silverado and that was in the shop every other week with you name it, from a miss from cloged injectors to a water leak on the passangers side. I guess what I am trying to say is that you will have some repairs on any used vehicle, but don't let the few things on this sight make the decision for you. If you like it and it is in good shape, I would go for it. Also welcome aboard.

Re: New owner...not so sure now ?
Did you go ahead and purchase the Suburban- I was curious. I have a 99 that I have a love/hate relationship with. For the positives--I have never owned a better riding vehicle. The big leather, heated captain chairs in front are like a Barcolounger. It is like sitting in your living room when you travel. I feel like mine gets good fuel mileage to be what it is. I get right at 19 on the highway--that is with the cruise set on 75 mph with the a/c going. From what I have heard from Expedition owners this is unheard of. You cannot beat the room and comfort.
The down side is that I had to replace the transmission at 60,000 miles. I follow the maintenance schedule to the letter-plus my burb has never towed anything. I still cannot believe the transmission went out. I also had to replace the manifold gaskets last month-at 65,000 miles. I have dropped some serious money on this thing this year. I hope the hemorrhaging is over for a while ![]() Interesting note--my brother has a Ford F-150 that is treated like a baby. He has 60,000 miles on his and had to replace the intake manifold gaskets last week. That is the second set he has had put on. I guess GM is not the only ones that cannot get this down to an art. Good luck if you have purchased it already! |

I did purchase it. Had to have all four door locks replaced. The acuator was bad in all of them. Front end wanders, almost like a mind of its own. Had an alignment done , it helped some but something still not right. I will have to pin it down and take it back, dealer said al front end components are fine. Read that rag joint or stearing box might be culprit. It shifts with a jerking motion from 1st to 2nd, previous owner installed a shift assist kit, was told this would cause this to happen. Not really believing that one, will have tranny place look at it. Then return to dealer if need be. It still has the Dex-Cool fluid in it, looking into flushing it out, buddy told me that there is a nuetralizer that can be added prior to flushing to minimize any problems when putting the green stuff in. As far as I can tell the intakes are not leaking yet, motor is super quiet and performs great. Fuel pump whines a little sometimes, not overly loud, in fact my 03 chevy ext cab p/up has a louder fuel pump. Alittle musty smell, previous owner stored vehicle 4 - 5 months out of year for 3 years.
Having said all that, I love this vehicle, the big roomy interior and leather heated seats. Gas mileage is around 14 - 16 town, get 19 - 21 highway , the and even better than the 03 Safari AWD I traded in. No complaints on this. Not regreting the decision yet. |
