engine rolls over and has spark, no fuel

1985 ford f150 5.0 fuel injected, ran for awhile then quit. Thought gas line freeze up so heated up and it took off for about 10 min. it has new plugs ,cap, rotor- plenty of spark no fuel. checked fuel lines on rail seem to be unplugged. no sound of pump running when key is on. took off pump hooked direct to battery, runs like a charm. the wiring is all over the place from previous owner. is there a fuse or a relay that I am missing because no power to fuel tanks, fuel pump? snow is getting deep need truck fixed now, need help

Re: engine rolls over and has spark, no fuel

I have an 89 f-150 I just bought with some issues. I fixed them all, but while I was doing one last thing under the hood, while it was running, my dad noticed that there were some splices and some rigging on the wiring laying on the drivers side inner fender, just behind the air filter box. I told him to leave it alone, but no, he decided to pickup the flopping relay, and look at it. The truck quit running. this relay is for the fuel pump. You could smack it around, then the truck would start. Smack it around again, while running, and the truck would quit. I also noticed that it was very warm. So, I am redoing the rigged wire, and replacing the relay. Hope this helps!!

Lightbulb Re: engine rolls over and has spark, no fuel

If your f150 has two fuel tanks then there is 3 fuel pumps. One in each tank and one on the frame rail up front on the drivers side behind the suspension mount. All 3 use a relay that is on the drivers side under the hood. The basic number on the relay you want is 9345. There will be some numbers and letters in front and in back of the basic number, ex. e3fz-9345-b. The 9345 is a fuel pump relay and it will be black and green in color. The wire color that runs the pumps is pink with a black stripe. The pumps only run about 5 seconds when the key is turned to the run position so that could be why you thought there was no power. But there is power all the time in the crank mode and when the engine is running. Look for corrosion in the connectors on the left inner fender well. Usually shows as a light green powder. This is a common problem in areas where salt is used to clear the roads. Don't be afraid to wiggle the and pull slightly on the individual wires in the connectors. Look for the pink/black wire too.
