Ignition switch will not return and release key

I'd like to know if anyone has experienced the same thing that happened to my 2000 rodeo.
I had to make a hard stop the other day. I'm sure that the ABS activated. When I arrived at my destination, I put the shift lever(automatic trans) into the park position and shut the car off. The problem is that the igintion switch didnt fully return to the position to allow the key to come out.
The ignition is off and the vehicle shuts down fine, just that the key wont come out.
I also notice that now, with the key in the off position, the dash lites will glow in unison with the brakes when you press and release the brake pedal.
Any help is appreciated.
