supercharger help
I recently started doing my own maintance on my 2000 grand prix since the service manager at the dealer I used to go to does not work ther any more. They started charging me full price for oil changes. Anyway, I went to check the oil level in the supercharger the other day and it seems that the hex bilt is completely stripped out. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get it out without taking the snout off? Does any one know the part number of the hex bolt so I can get a new one.

Re: supercharger help
If it's just the inspection plug that can be replaced but probably a dealer item. The GM part number is 24500661. Cost around $6.50.
Stripping the head is common because people do not use the right tools such as a 3/16" allen wrench or use the BFFI technique. Plus it should only be torqued to 8 - 12 ft-lbs. You might try gently wedging a flat blade screwdriver tip that fits snugly into the plug head and turning with some sort of wrench assist. If that doesn't work you may need to use an easy out bit. Hopefully, there is no cross threading of the snout thread insert because that would require replacing the complete snout or taking the snout off for machine shop work. Good luck!

But most people do not know how to properly use an EZ out bit because you have to drill a hole in the plug first. The other method mentioned works too. I keep a spare plug because I have to maintain 2 superchargers so that's why I had the part number and cost.Jim, but you do know what a BFFI is???

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: supercharger help
From what this old man understood, you don't drill thru the hex on the supercharger. Don't want metal inside it. And it's not too tight.
I had to help a friend get the ones out of a 426 Hemi once. Told him not to call me again. You want to talk about a pain. Quote:

BTW - You should have let me known earlier that you were going to sell the GTX. We could have swapped out nose drives (your Magnusson for mine). ![]()

Thanks to all for the advice. I think I might try the screw driver methed first. I don't really want to take the snout off with it full of oil. I have a feeling it will be a pain to clean up off the engine.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: supercharger help
By the way. I did tell you that I was going to sell it. Boy it's bad when you get old.
This is the nose drive that went with it; http://www.pfyc.com/store/merchant.m...y_Code=GPUNDER Oh I may have the other two GP's sold. Guys wants them both. Said he has never seen a GTP that is that nice. I think the GT looks the best. But the GTX was my fav to drive. Remind me, before I shut this computer down for good. I'll send you all the GP stuff in my favorites. You more then likely have most, but the folder holds about 5 GHz. Quote:

5GHZ? Too much for on-line transfer. Have you got a CD burner? I can send you blank CDs.

Re: supercharger help
I'll try to get the best one, I'll burn to DVD or acouple CD's if you don't have a DVD reader on your computer.
If I didn't have the Doctor give me a time limit, They would never be sold. The one that hurts is the 1966 GTO. I have allot of Grandkids. Who gets it? The one that gets it will love me for forever. The other ones will think I am playing favorite's. I'd sell it, but that would be dumb.
