off road rigs as daily drivers

Whose off road rig also qualifies as their daily driver? I have been wanting to start rebuilding my old 77 c10 into an offroad right, but I don't know if i should because i don't have another car to drive. Who drives there rig on the roads as well as the trails?

Re: off road rigs as daily drivers

I don't have one personally but I know A LOT of people that do and they drive them daily. Some of them have weekend warriors that are built pulling trucks for competitions. My one friend drives his '86 3/4 3 speed every day even with the 33's and the ZZ4...in fact he's upgrading to 40's with a 10 inch lift and he plans for it to still be his DD.

How long do you're tires last if you're locked in the front?

Basically he's saying he has an ARB Air Locker in the front which is a selectable locker. Then he has manual hubs for using 4wd anyways so even if it was in 4wd and the Locker was locked, only the back wheels would be putting any power to the ground. This way when he takes a turn he won't be hoppin' all over the place fuckin' up his tires since when you turn the outside wheel must go faster than the inside. Same with the rear tires but the difference in speed is much less.

I'm saying that when you're turning with an open/limited slip diff. the rear tires will have a difference in speed of only a couple MPH give or take and the front will be much more. Which is why you're able to lock the back without as many problems as the front...when turning.

Re: off road rigs as daily drivers

I got a 97 Jeep Cherokee w/ 4.5" lift 33x12.50s and a detroit locker in the rear that i drive daily. Id post a pic but cant figure it out on here. The rear end does chirp a bit when turnin cause of the locker but thats half the fun of havin one, you should see the looks you get when you put a lifted truck sideways through a turn.
