normal coolant temp?

Would like to know what is the normal temperature for a truck. I have a 90 chevy silverado with the 5.7 V8. It isalways at about 200-210 Farenheit. think that may a little too high.

Re: normal coolant temp?

No, that temp range is perfect.

Your engine is intended to run with a 195 deg. thermostat, meaning that it will not even start to open until the coolant reaches that temp.

If you put a cooler (180 deg). thermostat, the EFI computer might consider the engine is too 'cold' and richen up the mixture a bit to compensate, which would reduce the fuel economy and increase emissions.

Warmer engine run a bit cleaner, more efficiently and last a bit longer.

Yep, 200-210 is normal, like MagicRat said, the thermostat opens at 195, and it usually runs a touch warmer than that. I wouldn't get concerned unless it goes over the 210 mark.
