Question engine question

i was doing some browsing on the net to kill time at work and i came across a 7.5l V8 455cid engine. I was wondering what year birds does that fit in and what is the approx. hp for it?

I think 370HP was the highest, but by the time the 455 was in production the HP was being cut back because of smog rules. The 428 had 390HP only a year or so before. The 455 was the same external size as the other Pontiac V8 engines. All Pontiac V8 engines from '55-'79 were the same external size. There are some differences in engine mount attachment holes on the blocks over the years, depending on what 'frame' they were intended for, so you would need to make sure they match your bird. There are several aftermarket blocks available, and rebuilt Pontiac blocks that have much more power, but they would need to go into pre-smog cars to avoid problems with state inspections and the Feds, if they ever started getting serious about checking.
