Boosted Blow Thru Build.
Ok my sig pretty much explaines my motor. However I am still waiting on my tranny so I have no clue when I may be done. But here goes: I have a 1987 Mustang Coupe that is getting a serious transplant. I am building a 351w and putting a Dynamic C4 behind it.
The motor is out of a 1989 F-150. I am useing the stock block & crank at this time, hopefully I can build a Dart block motor for the car later. The block has been bored .030, line honed, decked, and then crank has been turned .010/.010. For my rotating assembly I have Scat H-beam forged rods and Probe forged dished pistons to get about 8.7:1 cr with my 60cc heads. I have Edelbrock Performer RPM heads and a Performer RPM Air-Gap intake. Kevin at CSU built me an awsome blow thru Holley 750cfm 4150 double pumper. I also purchased my carb hat from CSU. My valvetrain consists of an F-303 cam, Crane retro-fit link bar hydraulic roller lifters, Comp Pro Magnum 1.6 roller rockers, and a Ford SVO double roller timing chain set. I still have to figure out what length pushrod I need but will probably go to Trick Flow for those. I have tall cast aluminum Ford Racing valve covers. A Canton 7qt oil pan, pickup, and dipstick. My harmonic balancer is another peice from ford that can be made to use with 28oz, 50oz, or 0 balance motors. I have a CSR electric waterpump, and a TCI flexplate. Last but not least is the power adder. Just a Vortech S-trim for now, with 8 rib pullies 2.95"/8" and spun to about 6000rpms. I am told to expect about 12psi with those pulleys at that rpm. I have a Mondo by-pass valve from Vortech as well. As for the car its self I have a Summit brand 2 core aluminum radiator and a Mark 8 electric fan. I will soon be ordering a 20gal. Summit brand aluminum fuel cell, Aeroquip stainless braided fuel line, and aluminum hardline to go under the car. I have an Aeromotive A1000 fuel pump and a 13202 fuel pressure regulator. I will run -10AN fuel line for feed and return, and then -8AN line from the regulator to the carb. For my ignition I have a MSD 8584 Billet distributor, MSD 6 BTM ignition box, and a Blaster SS coil. I am not sure at this time what spark plugs and plug wires I will be running. I have 15x8 Weld draglites wrapped in 275/50R15 Mickey Tompson ET Street Radials for the rear, and 15x7 draglites for the front with regular street tires for now. Since this will be a daily driver I didnt want to go with skinnies up front right off the bat. My rearend is an 8.8 with 3.55 gears and South Side machine traction bars. I also have subframe connectors I will be installing soon. I have a Harwood 4" cowl hood on the way as well. For the interior I am getting Autometer Ultra-Lite guages: fuel level, oil pressure, water temp, voltage, tranny temp, speedo, tach, boost guage, and shiftlight. All guages will be custom mounted in-dash. Aslo a Hurt Quarter stick shifter is supposed to be coming with my trans. Also I will be installing a wideband O2 sensor / LM-1 for tuning my air/fuel ratio. I do not want to go lean! I have spent alot of money so far, and I'm getting ready to spend alot of man hours. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Boosted Blow Thru Build.
David,
Very nice! My only worries are the crank, and the 8 rib pulley. With my S-Trim on a 2.95 8 rib it would slip. You might want to purchase one of those tensioners. Where do you plan on shifting? Around 6k? Anything more than that, you might be on borrowed time with that crank. 500rwhp sounds about right, very good marriage of parts. 8.7 bigthumb: No worries about valve clearance? I will need to fly cut mine.

Re: Boosted Blow Thru Build.
The crank is 1 reason I'm keeping the revs down, that and most companies that sell heads assembled dont exactly use the best valves/springs ect and I dont wanna start floating valves.
For the time being I'm gonna set my rev limiter at 6500, probably buy a 6300 pill later. Just gotta hit the dyno and see. I plan on shifting at 6000, but I dont wanna be on the limiter at 6000, and the next pill up that I have is 6500. So it will do for now. Since I'm running 1.6 rockers with my f303 cam I shouldnt have any p/v issues.

Re: Boosted Blow Thru Build.
What cc, and valve size are on those heads? Any flow numbers?
6500 is around my shift point, and that is with upgraded valve train, but then again I am going with 1.72s, so that puts my valve train a little stressed than yours, so mine would be more inclined to float. What stall are you going with? Are you really going to need a 4" hood? That is going to be a monster. Get a cage, and you did not mention your torque boxes, one good plant, and you might be putting that car's rear drive train in a place you do not want. I have a bunch of pills, so if you want I can ohm 6300, and give you value. Then you just have to go to radio shack, and there you go.

Re: Boosted Blow Thru Build.
Nice intake. I went to take some more picstures today but my batteries died in the dig camera.
The heads are 60cc with 2.02/1.60 valves. An Edge 3200 stall converter is supposed to be coming with my trans. Bought as a package on the corral. Not sure if I will need a 4" hood, but I wanted to play it safe. Only wanted to spend $450+ on a hood once. I think it cost $75 to get it shipped. I will probably buy a 6 point bar from Jegs or Summit and weld it in myself. I have been welding for about 6 years so it should look pretty decent. I'll have to rent a welder though, that sucks. I'll weld my blower plumbing, exhaust, torque boxes, and subframe connectors while I have the welder rented. I'd let somebody else install the cage but I dont know of anyone around that does good work. Found a small spot of rust on the car the other day as well, so it looks like body work is coming sooner than later. Sounds like a good idea on the rpm pill. I'll let ya know after I get it running. Thanks for the offer! Good luck in your build. I probably wont get much done this week, gotta start working 12hrs a day again.

Re: Boosted Blow Thru Build.
Rain rain go away!!!
Another rainout. Was gonna fit my hood and install my hoodpins today since I got off work alot earlier than expected. Oh well, maybe it will clear up soon. In the meantime I'll try to get some updated pics of progress on the motor. I'll try to post more pics soon.

Re: Boosted Blow Thru Build.
Well my hood and fuel cell are here now. I'd update with pics but my mom has the dig camera right now for work. I'll try to get some pics up this weekend.

Re: Boosted Blow Thru Build.
Damn Canton! My oil pan wont fit! The mid section on the oil pan is about 4" deep. Well, My oil pickup tube sits about 4 1/2" below the block! The pan just teter totars on the pickup tube. Both peices where what Canton recomended for my application. They Will be getting a call tomarrow! I had to modify the pickup tube to clear the rear sump of the pan already! The pan is 9" deep. The pickup screen for the pickup tube sat 9" below the block. Now, you tell me, how the hell can a screen let oil thrue when its flush with the bottom of the damn oil pan? So I did like my machinist said and layed a rag over the pickup tube, put a pipe wrench and a breaker bar on it and slowly and steadily bent the screen almost a 1/2" closer to the block. I am NOT happy!

Re: Boosted Blow Thru Build.
That sucks, but its all part of the growing pains of cars
Keep us posted on what they say.

Re: Boosted Blow Thru Build.
ARG!
Recieved a package from Summit today. Was supposed to be the correct replacements for a whole list of wrong parts they sent me. Once again, I got the wrong parts. I need a fitting that adapts -8AN braiden hose to a Holley carb, Not a -8AN fuel cell bulkhead! They sent me double the amout I ordered on some parts and charged my card. Maybe one day when Summit hires a couple McDonalds employes instead of the mentally touched staff they have at the moment they can run a decent bussiness. I have been dealing with Summit for years. This is the first time I have had a repetative problem with them. I'm temped to tell them to take the parts back and refund the money. I'll just have to go somewhere else for the parts. Maybe Jegs knows the different between their parts.

Re: Boosted Blow Thru Build.
I thought you said you were turboing your car. What's a vortech supercharger doing there? Tsk tsk. Anyway, you still have your 4cyl motor? if you do, could i grab it off ya? Lemme know where you are, if your in Canada that would be easier to ship the motor. Or at least i could get some parts off it. I need to use another mother for some R&D for horsepower. Lemme know.

Re: Boosted Blow Thru Build.
The 4cyl was long gone before I ever bought the car. As far as the blower goes, the plan has always been to get my first taste of boost with a small blower and then move up to a decent sized turbo. A PT76 GTS with a tangential housing sounds pretty nice. All in the future though. Right now I gotta get this damn thing runnin!
