Arrow Noises, Problems, and Questions

I hate my car. Sooo, I want to fix it. Having some problem though that I don't know how to and all. Lets begin, shall we;

1) Whenever I turn on my car lately, I've been noticing a noise. Now, my belts squeak all crazy, so I just ignored it. I opened the hood today, and the sound is coming from the tranny. It's not loud, but loud enough. It sounds like somethings moving, and like it's rubbing every-now-and-then on something else. Hard to explain, but it's coming from the tranny, like closer to the block. What's the problem there? Would a lack of tranny fluid cause this maybe?

2) I'm still having a problem starting the car when it's cold. It took 10 times yesterday before I could get it running. It turns over, then dies. Takes oup to thr 4th try before it idles, then its low idle (300rpm). If i give it gas, it dies... if I let it sit, itll more than likely die. IDK what the problem can be here. My mom is making me take it in to a shop b.c. she's pissed about the whole thing. I want to fix myself, no labor charge :-) Plugs and wires are good. Would a lack of tranny fluid cause maybe?

3) For those who use a datalogger or dsmlink, what is the connection type set to? Or the interface? Is it ELM or Multiplex? Or ISO, VPW, PWM, or KWP? Had to reload palmOS and all the programs, so I lost all the right connections.

Thanks all. This car is costing too much now.

Re: Noises, Problems, and Questions

Does it sound like a loose pressure plate or a weak throwout bearing?

Re: Noises, Problems, and Questions

sounds like the throwout bearing needs to be replaced. try replacing your fuel filter that might help your starting issue, check the coolant temp sensor as well. the c.t.s will not throw a code but will make the car run stupid and be hard to start

He's already replaced the fuel filter.

Re: Noises, Problems, and Questions

Hmmm, try to take it to a shop and ask them about the noise under the hood and what they think it is.
About the idle issue, I believe you have a sensor problem. I had the same problem on my RS. It wouldnt start the first time and it would try to die. RPMs were moving up and down until the car warms up and then it works perfectly. I took it to the dealership and they told me which sensor it was. I bought it and my dads friend replaced it. I know the sensor was around the TB.

Re: Noises, Problems, and Questions

Like the TPS? Only sensor on the TB besides the IAC motor. Try to find out it that's it.

Did replace fuel filter no more than a couple months ago. Ahead of you there. ;-)

I'm going to take it in to my shop on Thursday. I know I'm low on tranny fluid, so I'm going to fill her up (finally) on Wednesday, then see if it still makes the noise. Would little tranny fluid cause noises?

Coolant temp sensor seems fine. logged my trip to work, (which will be in another post), and it was fine. Moved in a range from 199-210 degrees. That's pretty normal, right? It was working fine when logging.

Re: Noises, Problems, and Questions

replace the tps and fill it up with tranny fluid...low enough fluid COULD cause some noises.

Re: Noises, Problems, and Questions

the fast air idle valve is going bad(faiv)it is the whole bottom assembly of the throttle body.i know this for sure.it is majorly expensive at the dealer so try to get a whole new throttle body from a friend or a salvage.that sensor allows the car to start when its cold.go to vfaq.com and look under idle surge to read about how the faiv works.

Re: Noises, Problems, and Questions

Where on the TB? There's only 2 sensors on the TB. I should have gone to the vfaq first. But I know there's only 2

Re: Noises, Problems, and Questions

dose the noise from the tranny go alway when you push the clutch in? if it dose then it is the throwout bearing. i bet when you turn on your car for the first time in the day when the motor is cold, the noise is real loud and as the motor warms up the noise calms down a little. i had the same problem with my gs. now if you replace the throwout bearing, your might as well replace the clatch if you avent already.

Re: Noises, Problems, and Questions

the clutch could be going bad. are your gears going in ok? when i first herd the noise from my gs tranny it was the throwout bearing. the noise was a scratching noise but it would go alway when i push the clutch in. i replaced the bearing and the clutch. but my dumbass replaced with a cheapass autozone clutch. man that clutch suck balls. in less then 8 mon. scratching noise came back and it was a little louder then before. but this time it didn't go alway when i push the clutch in. it was constant. my gears would still go in normal. until a few weeks later, i was starting to having problems putting it into 2nd, 3rd and reverse. me and friend pulled off the tranny and the clutch was all fucked up. the clutch was under warrenty so i got my money back. now, it has a O reilly's clutch. its been a year and i havent had no problems. its not a high performace but its good as a stock clutch.

Re: Noises, Problems, and Questions

No problem with gears. If it doesnt go in, its because of me missing the shift. I was told the clutch needs to be replaced, and that was a year ago. Im just going to ride it out until it gets undrivable, if it ever does.
