? about 01 GP GT

I'm in the market for a new car...i've come across a 2001 2door coupe grand prix gt. It has 80,000miles and the used car dealer wants $8600 for it. The car looks to be in really good condition, we drove it and it shifts good and pulls strong. I'm a jeep guy so driving this thing, eewww weee you can feel the horses. Anyhow, I'm wantin' to know if this would be a good deal. I'm wantin' a car to be reliable and something I could own for a while w/ all kinds of problems. I don't want to own the car for a couple of years and reach that magical 100,000mile mark and the thing falls apart. I've searched around on here and seen what everyone says bout the gt's and what they like/dislike. I've heard some talk about the tranny's being a problem. What do I need to look for or beware of if i get this gt and the future problems that I may see. When do things start to have problmes? How long are the 3.8l and the tranny suppose to last on the gt's. Any helpful info you guys can give me before I make this purchase I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Re: ? about 01 GP GT

On the non supercharged GT's, the only trans problem is sticky shift solenoids. The only other known issues are hub bearings (the abs sensors go out necessitating replacement), and the plastic upper plenums. Luckily, the last two problems are fairly simple for a DIY with decent ability. The trans solenoids are beyond a DIY as it requires dropping the trans. I think that car is a good deal, but you might want to run a carfax report on it, or get the dealer to do it as part of the deal, so you know that it hasn't been in an accident, flood, etc...
