tranny making a ruckus

when i run my car for a while the tranny whines an kick in the gears pretty hard any suggestions?????? its a 1999 pontiac grand prix gt

Common problem on your car.....Basically will need to be rebuilt...how many miles on it?...Mine did the same thing,but, i got about another 10,000 miles on it before i changed it

i had the same exact problem on my 2000 se 3.1. i kept going back to the dealer whom covered my warrantee, since i bought it used from them (mistake) went through 3 trannys, so i said screw it and went to a tranny shop and a solenoid was bad. i cant seem to find the paper work right now, it has to be in the glove compartment in the car which is out in the driveway under some snow right now. if i find it i will get back to you on what part it was. but then again it might not do any good since we got different trannys. man! it was a pain in the behind when i was having that problem. wouldnt act up until i drove on the highway for a while then once i got off the highway i would hear that whining and the intense shifting. since i got the part replaces just about 2 years ago, never had any problems since. only thing good, my tranny now has 20k less miles than the engine and body. haha

Typically when you get harsh shifting and a whining sound its the Pressure Control Solenoid (PCS). The problem is well documented in GM Tech Service Bulletins for the 4T65E tranny. A lot of times the problem will go away for a short time and then comes back. Very intermittent and annoying.
