Question CAI in winter... bad ??

what's the chance of sucking enough snow/salt threw the cai to do any major harm to your engine? just wondering because when i bought my car it had 1 on it and i don't have the factory air box.. i had to sell my winter beater over the summer cause i was low on cash so now im stuck driving my car in the snow this year.. i must have called every junk yard in the phone book and of corse none of them have any eclipse/talons in there.. at least that's a good sign lol .. if anyone has any ideas on what i should do let me know.. or if you think it will be fine .. thanks and happy Turkey day!!!!!!!!!

Re: CAI in winter... bad ??

just get a short ram intake and youll be fine

the snow will probabaly melt before it has a chance to actually be sucked up

You won't have a problem. Don't worry about salt or anything. That's why the thing has a filter on it, to filter out bad things.

Re: CAI in winter... bad ??

Do you have a bypass valve? I was put under the impression its a very good idea to get one especially in the winter.

Don't worry about sucking up snow or salt. Deep water is another issue, but not in the winter. I have never had a problem with mine, and I have been in some pretty deep water with my intake. You just have to keep the throttle way down and stay out of the really deep shit. Bypass valve is effective, but kinda defeats the gains the CAI gives you. Don't bother with it unless you don't trust yourself to make good decisions in rain.

I would give the chances about 3% of sucking up water if you make good decisions. (don't ask how I came up with that number lol)

Re: CAI in winter... bad ??

lmao.. i think we all used to play that game in school.. right after i got the car we had rain for a few days pretty hard and i came over this hill only to find the road was flooded with about 1 1/2 feet of water and of course i couldn't stop in time and well the rest is history because i did suck up about a gallon or 2 of water.. bad memories.. blown engine and everything.. thats why i was wondering about the snow.. thanks for all of the replys!
