4WD engages sometimes

'93 Ranger . It will go into 4WD only after it's been warmed up a while. When i shut it off and come back to it later the 4WD is off and I haveto startthe whole process over again. Any clues? Haven't had any problems like this before.

Are you sure it isn't going into 4wd ? It may be that the display is slow in the cold.

I'm pretty sure as it handles differently than it does if it were in 4WD but I'll check it out. I'll have the wife watch to see if the front wheels are throwing snow. She owes me since she gave me a mud racing stripe after I pushed her out of the mud by hand and she floored it.

Re: 4WD engages sometimes

Has this been solved? you have auto-engaging hubs? If so, you may need to replace them. Personally, I would just buy new manual locking hubs and a conversion kit(spindle nut kit) and change over. the earlier rangers have problems with the auto hubs.
