I sucked water into my engine and heard a loud pop sound and bits of metal flying around.. the car still runs but vibrates alot, if i rev it up when i let the rpms drop it stalls.
I dropped the exhaust, oilpan, and baffel plate and found several 1/4 inch metal shavings and 1 inch long chunk, the chunk i found to be the bottom part of a piston, i circled the broken part in the picture below. could just this chunk its self be causing the vibration or is it just a clue to somthing more major? the clyinder is 60psi below the rest. do i have any options short of a rebuild? the engine is making a clicking sound, not a knock. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: shrapnel Pics after hyrdoloc (pics)????
probably the sleeves got messed up too. depending on how deep and if it can be bored but you should rebuild it because the weight of the piston is off, knicks on the sleeves which might cause a ring to break.

Wow, you finally figured it out, huh? Nasty... One thing is that it might not have been water that caused the piston to break. But I guess I really don't know what caused it either.
Yes, like the civickiller says, it probably ate through your cylinder wall and you probably need new sleeve. But just pull the block out and take it to a shop. They will tell you if they can boar it or not. Eitherway you do need to rebuild it if you want to use that same engine. Hey, good thing is that you get more displacement out anyways. More power!!! You will need new pistons, rings, pins which normally come with the pistons. Just keep the existing connecting rods unless you want something nicer, but more expansive. Since you have the crank out, I would replace the main bearings anyways. Just usual cleaning stuff. Good luck. |
