? about 4x4 switch on 01

My service 4-wheel light has been coming on frequently for several months. I was told it might be the switch but i didnt want to buy a new switch if that isnt the problem. When I try to put it in 4 wheel drive it wont go. If I keep pushing it for a long time it sometimes goes into 4 wheel drive but not very often. Is this most likely the switch or something else. Thank You oh yeah, 01 tahoe LS

The "service 4wd" light is commanded on by the "Transfer Case Control Module". It could be the switch since there's been problems with them. I kind of doubt it though since you're getting the dash "light". These things really require a "good" scanner tool, one that will get beyond generic codes, to diagnose the problem..........Steve

Dealer, AutoZone, local repair shops usually have good diagnostic tools (SnapOn) etc. Get the codes, they're probably stored in "history" and post them back here. We'll try and steer you in the right direction.
