Question spedometer for 1984 733i

I recently purchased a 1984 733i. The spedometer is dead on the dash. When the lights are on, the lights on that part of the dash are also dead. What would I have to do to fix the spedometer? I know that this year of car has an electric spedometer. Is the actual spedometer dead, or is the dash bad? The computer that is mounted in the dash also isn't reading the speed. Any help would be appreciated, and thanks for your time!

Send a message via AIM to Dave Lord
The sending unit is attached to the rear axle on the differential, check to make sure it is not disconnected and the wire is not damaged.
