blocking off egr valve ? any problems

ive got a 1995 lesabe with 110,000 miles that i drive everyday, lately ive heard of quite a few other peope that have had melted plastic intakes from their egr valve going into the plastic intake . i took the metal pipe off from the egr valve to the intake and pluged it with a bolt that i cut to fit and reinstalled it so the egr valve is still hooked up ,but cant blow hot air into the engine anymore . ive ran it 80 miles a day like this for a month now , it runs the same temp, doesnt ping or spark-knock , the check -engine light hasent came on . it drives the same as before . can this hurt the engine in anyway ? i dont live in an area where emissions is a problem . the only thing i see different is if you rev the engine in neutral with no load quickly it will rev then stop like a rev-limiter for a second before reving further ? it doesnt do this while driving the car under a load accelerating down the road . i just dont feel like wondering when my intake is going to melt and pour coolant into my motor . david

This can cause pinging at some point, you may not hear it and it will fail any emissions test.

Although, you may not hear any pinging, your combustion temperature is running higher than normal. Although the exhaust gas is very hot, it actually lowers the temperature inside the combustion chamber. The reason is because there should be little oxygen left in the exhaust after the fuel/air mixture is burned. Higher oxygen content would raise the temperature. Also, your NOx will be higher and I'm not sure if this will contaminate your cat.
