this is on a 93 wrangler, 4.0L, and the question is just like the subject.
is the temp sensor connected to the computer? will disconnecting the temp sensor cause any problems with how the engine runs? I'm asking because my temp guage has quit working, and I'm thinking of just replacing it with a mechanical temp guage, but I wasn't sure if pulling the stock temp sensor would cause any problems. thanks, Keith

Re: is temp sensor connected to computer?
Hey Keith, I'm not sure. But an easy way to find out is to disconnect it. If it's hooked up to the computer and not sending info, you will either get a rough running engine during warmup (not adjusting for cold engine) or a lower MPG while driving(as not leaning once warmed). A quick 20-30 mile highway trip should tell the tale. If your Jeep behaves as it did prior to the failure, then replace the sensor with whatever you'd like to.

Re: is temp sensor connected to computer?
The wiring diagram that I have for a 93 wrangler shows it going to the computer. Not sure how it actually relates but with the EFI, it may well have some input to the fuel and ignition operation.

Re: is temp sensor connected to computer?
thanks for the replies.
over the weekend I tried disconnecting the temp sensor. as soon as I started it, it ran rough, and the "check engine" light came on, plugged it back in, and all was well again. I was wanting to install a mechanical temp guage, because the stock one didn't appear to be working. well, I put a "T" fitting in the heater hose that comes of of the water neck, just a few inches away from the stock temp sensor. after I had it in and hooked up, I took it for a drive, and noticed that the new guage barely moved over 130*(same reading I was getting with the stock gage) so now I'm thinking that the thermostat is stuck open. I'm going to try to pick up a new T-stat this week, and see if that helps.
