98 Grand Voyager recommend tires

Any one have input as to which tires are good for this vehicle? Michelin, BF Goodrich etc.
Someone told me to make sure that the tires are "rated" for this vehicle. What does that mean ? thanks in advance.

Re: 98 Grand Voyager recommend tires

If you change size of tire (from factory recommended size) you must make sure that the new size has the same or better load and speed capacity of the OEMs. Some tire stores will install unsafe tires on your vehicle and send you on your way. I have seen it many times. My Brother in Law likes to put low profile tires on his minivans (he has five kids and two minivans). He was always having flat tire problems and I pointed out to him that the load capacity for the tires on the minivan was much lower than the original tires. It was so low in fact that the tire was overloaded when the van was empty, no wonder the tires wore out in 8-10K miles if they didn't blow out first.
I've had three Dodge minivans, I like to substitute wider tires sizes on them. For the 15" rims (2000) the original size is 215-65/15 I like to substitute 225-60/15. I prefer to upgrade to 16" rims and use 225-60/16, the load capacity is significantly higher for the 16" rims and the tire size is very easy to get because a lot of full size cars use this size. Prices range from $45-$200 per tire. BTW in my wheel upgrades, I only use OEM wheels, the safety standards for OEM far exceeds that of aftermarket wheels and a lot of people discard them, you can E-Bay a good set of OEM's for cheap.

A few months ago I bought 4 16" Yokohama Avid TRZ for my 98 sport. They made a big difference in handling, and are very quite. I rate them higher than the OEM Michelin's and the Goodyears I had previously.
They were $80.00 each out the door from a tire only store. I looked at a Goodyear store and Costco but by the time your done you've spent $400. to $500.

I don't think minivans have special tire ratings. Most all season tires should be good. Use the drivers door sticker to get the proper air pressure inflation.
