Tranny acting a little funny, larger rims

Hello fellow car junkies, I am having a little delima here. When I bought my ACCORD it came with 205-60-15 tires, I bought its first set of tunner rims which came with 225-45-17 tires, wasnt satisfied with its look after a year and a half so I bought some lovely 18 inch Panther 4040c wheels wraped in 225-40-18 rubberbands. The situation is that my engine has a little bit of a lag before I get up to speed. My question is that is there a shop or program where I can take my car to get the computer flashed to tell the tranny when to shift. I heard that larger wheels could cause this problem. btw smaller rims are out of the question!!!!!!!!
pics comming soon

Doesn't sound like anything to do with the wheel size. A lag is more likely to be an induction issue.

Re: Tranny acting a little funny, larger rims

I think I know what you mean, when you start really changing the outer diameter of the tire, you change the acceleration characteristic of the car, feels kinda flat on the bottom end but tops out higher.

I ran across that with an old bomber station wagon I had, came with 225-75/15's but got a meaty set of 265-80-15's off a Ford pickup and mounted them (it was kind of a joke, but it looked like something outta Mad Max, cool) and it felt a bit strange when accelerating from a stop (almost like the tranny was slipping or something), but kicked ass once rolling.

I bet it's not as bad as it seems, it just feels weird to you because it's different.

I can't really see where a reflash would help, unless you think the shift points are wrong now and could be improved. A VSS recalibration sounds like what's needed, but I don't know if that's possible. Either that, or maybe someone makes a chip to fgo inline with the VSS wiring and modify it's signal when you change diameter like that...I dunno.

Re: Tranny acting a little funny, larger rims

You have in effect made your gearing taller. Hondas don't come with much torque to begin with, so this will just make the car sluggish at lower revs.

If smaller rims are out of the question. Have you thought about an Escalade?

Re: Tranny acting a little funny, larger rims

Thanks Guys!!!!!
AccordCodger: I had recently cleaned my CAI filter right before I put the larger wheels on.
Jeffcoslacker: I think that you are right, once I start rolling it just feels like I have a car full of people (which doesnt happen), but when she gets up to speed....FORGETABOUTIT!!!!!
Lamehonda: Ill be waiting on those funds so that I can go and pick up that Escalade
