general maintenance outline?

Could someone post a list of general maintenance steps one should go through when owning a car? For example, checking brake fluid, how often it should be changed, air filter, transmission fluid, etc.

Well, the thing is I don't have the manual to my car. Is there a general guideline that is basically the same for most cars? (I have a 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis)
