Question best of d seires?

Ok i kno not alot of people dont like the d-series engine but its what im goin to start with. I wanted to know which d-series engine would be good for NA. I remember reading a post saying that it can push 200hp. Is this really possible? Im starting to save up money for mods an i have around $2500 right away. This will be my first project car so i wanted to start with something small.

Thanks for the help!

The stock d16 is good for around 180hp or so. (thats all i would put into it anyway) however built I have seen as high as 400-450. I highly recommend you consider going turbo.

I heard closer gear ratios are better for NA engines or something like that so which one out of all the d-series transmissions is good? I know turbo will give me alot of power but you dont see many all motor d-series around here so itll be something interesting to do you know.

Re: best of d seires?

you don't see many all motor d's because they cost a lot and don't make a lot of power....if power's what you're looking for, then boost is your friend!

Re: best of d seires?

There's a reason why you don't see too many all motor d-series. It's just not worth it when you could put OE Honda parts (ITR and CTR) into a b18c1 and easily make more power, without having to resleeve or pay for expensive aftermarket cams etc. But it's your car and your $, so you should od what you want and not what others say.

There isn't 1 out of the D-series that is best. I guess you could say the d15b vtec LSD tranny is best, only because there was an option for a factory LSD. Other than that, the '92-'95 Si, '92+ EX's (Coupes specifically), and the d15b vtec have pretty much the same gearing (I'm pretty sure they are exactly the same).

Re: best of d seires?

to get higher hp from a sohc d. you need to have that motor sleeved and bored 12:1 cr. the biggest cam you can run with those high comp pistons. one of those $800 dollar equal length header. itbs would be the best for power, p&p head. and of course the most important part, a really good tune. how high you cr can go is related to how high of an octane gas you have available
