If you're cheap like me you can put in direct fit #893 lamps which are 37.5 watts. No mods are needed to the holder, wiring, fuses, or relays. I've had them for over 4 years and no burnt wiring or electrical sockets.

Going to 50 - 55 watt lamps requires bracket/holder mods and the fog lamp relay and fuse should be upgraded to 15 amps due to the extra current draw. It's better to install a separate 15 amp relay kit. Just my 2 cents.

I was under the impression that the #893 / 37.5 watt bulbs will burn out my wiring. Is this not the case?

I don't have any problems using them but it may vary depending on how you use the fog lights. If you use them as running lights then I would be cautious about using #893 / 37.5 watt or any higher wattage lamps without any modifications. Hopefully, the 10 amp fuse pops first.
