asap help needed part 2 lol!!
Thanks! much appreciated for the quick reply n quality advice!! i wouldnt usually free air my subs - i've heard sealed and ported subs & they sound f**kin quality!! thing is i own a rover 214 sei cabriolet - i tried wiring a sealed sub in my boot but it rattles like you wouldnt believe (bein a cabriolet) so enclosin a sub in my boot is really out of the question!
i also looked into building an enclosure using my parcle shelf as one of the faces of the box (subs facing up) however i wasnt keen on all the weight supported by one metal sheet! so this is like my only option for some quality bass. i have 2 8" subs built into my door panels however there isnt much bass with them alone hence the situation im in now! is free airing really that bad?? p.s why does my name say benjamin?? im a girl god dammit!! |

Re: asap help needed part 2 lol!!
free air subs do not sound bad, just not loud. if youve ever heard a pair of sealed 6x9s or components vice just mounting them in the door or rear deck, there is a world of difference. i would suggest maybe replacing the 8s in the doors and amping them. i believe NG has some 8s glassed into his doors that he says sound great. 8s can get plenty loud if done right.

Yeah, the reason i didn't recomend free-air was cuz its not as efficient as sealed. and sealed isn't as efficient as ported. but yeah, everything else, go with what germanyt said.
as for rattling, i don't get what u mean by your 'boot'. but any rattling means you need sound-deadening. look at second skin, dynamat, or fat mat. crutchfield has a video walkthrough on how and where to apply sound deadening. and last... i dont know why. you had to have chosen a screen name, and apparently you chose benjamin... its all u, girl. hope that helps.
