gets hot on freeway?

97 astro van with 185000. temperture rises to about 200 degrees when i drive the freeway but when i slow down and get off the freeway the temp gauge drops to about 160. any clues as to what is happening?

Changed any parts recently? Like the water pump?

If not, I'd say your lower radiator hose is collapsing at speed and restricting the flow. You should be able to rev the engine and have someone watch the hose and see it happen.

How about a stuc thermostat?
200 on hwy, 160 when not.
It should be around 195 if i remember correctly
