need help asap!! subs - amps!
just brought 2 kenwood 12" subs (KFC-W300S) -
Spec... 600W / 150W RMS Freq. Response = 30-600Hz 91dB 4 ohms impedence can be sealed, ported or free aired ........... Im free airing the subs mounting them on my parcel shelf but need to know some things how i go about doin this, i havent brought an amp yet as im not sure which to buy (that will go well with my subs) i.e. ohms and channels - its goin straight over my head! so i need someone to tell me what kind of spec to look for when i go about purchasin my amp i.e. how many channels? im kinda sure on the fact i'll parallel my subs but i need to know how many channels to use per sub. if i have 600w per sub i reckon i'll need a 1200w+ amp right? ..... also by free airing my subs im going to have to make my boot near enough air tight right? any suggestions/tips at all as to how i can make it sound propa good??!?? Answers are welcome!!

also, don't free-air it. i highly recomend against it. just make a sealed box from 3/4 MDF. kenwood probably supplied a recomended box volume per sub. if not, probably go for 1-1/2 cu.ft per sub. its a lot more efficient than free airing it.

Re: Re: need help asap!! subs - amps!
Thanks! much appreciated for the quick reply n quality advice!! i wouldnt usually free air my subs - i've heard sealed and ported subs & they sound f**kin quality!! thing is i own a rover 214 sei cabriolet - i tried wiring a sealed sub in my boot but it rattles like you wouldnt believe (bein a cabriolet) so enclosin a sub in my boot is really out of the question!
i also looked into building an enclosure using my parcle shelf as one of the faces of the box (subs facing up) however i wasnt keen on all the weight supported by one metal sheet! so this is like my only option for some quality bass. i have 2 8" subs built into my door panels however there isnt much bass with them alone hence the situation im in now! is free airing really that bad?? |
