Desert Heat

I went out to the desert over the weekend and I came up with a problem that I have not encountered before.

#1) When I turn off my 88 XJ after it warmed up (180 - 190 df) and restart it (not letting cooldown) the idle would sputter and chuggggg (like the timing was out).
Most every sensor has recently been replaced, new plugs, distributor (w/wires) and changed oil. Afterdriving about a couple blocks the idle works fine. This now only happens after the engine is warmed up and I turn it off for a short time.

#2) I loose power while driving up grades (roads), It feels like the distributor does not advance to increase the speed to compensate, then the tranny will down shift to try correct, which does not help all that much. With electronic ignition I can't change the timing.

Any suggestions
