Engine Seized Up Over The Weekend

Hey All,

I'm new to the forum and would appreciate any assisitance.

My engine locked up on my 97 Rodeo 2WD/Auto over the weekend and I needed to have it towed 90 miles back to the house.

While I was passing a truck, I heard a loud "pop" from the engine, the oil light came on, and then that nasty clanking sound and then she shut down altogether. I know it's wishful thinking that it might just be the pump.

I pulled the plugs and poured some Marvel in so it can soak in there for a day or so before I try to "free it up." Plugs looked really good for what it's worth. But in the interim I wanted to drop the oil pan and see if there are any chunkies in there.

Can I drop the pan without raising the motor? It looks like I may be able to. Anything special I need to know? Anything else I should know? She has about 103K and we are the original owners. It was my wife's car and I need to decide whether it's worth putting a new motor in if it comes to that.

Thanks for the help.

Dwayne

4-Banger, right? Sounds like a busted timing belt and the associated valve crashing.

4cyl = a trashed valvetrain. 3.2L = top end ok, but a thrown connecting rod (bottom end trashed).

G/luck

if its a v6 model, i can make you a great deal on a sixxer out of a 99 rodeo, needs a bearing kit, wife spun a bearing and instead of fixing we put in a new one from Isuzu. (cost of new motor from the thiefs......$6,000) will gladly let the old one go for $1,000

Hangman, you REALLY must like your rodeo! As much as I like my 2002, I'd junk it before I put $6K into it.

cant stand the d#@* thing to tell the truth. every minute you turn around something else is going wrong with it. only reason it got a new motor, was my now brides father used that as a way to keep his thumb on her by paying out of pocket for the new motor. i tried to get her to let me fill it full of 90 weight oil and some marvel mystery oil and trailor it to the ford dealer, pull it off about a block away, and leave it running while we picked out a new car and told the salesman to do the paperwork lol
