Question 1999 Venture transmission

Just bought 99' Venture w/ 109K miles; experiencing hard shifts when accelerating slow or fast(after warming up). After reading some posts in this forum, can cleaning MAF sensor help, replacing fluid and filter, or soleniod in trans. be my problem?

Solenoid problem would be the likely culprit. Cleaning the MAF sensor is easy to do, so you can start there but I wouldn't expect much.

Question Re: 1999 Venture transmission

138K miles and after trans fluid change, NO CHANGE in jurking. Is solenoid easy to change and how much? MAF sensor cleaning didin't help.

Re: 1999 Venture transmission

I have not done the procedure myself, but from what others have said, I beleive it requires removing the end cap of the transmission. This in turn requires to drop the transmission down (although possibly not completely out).

Re: 1999 Venture transmission

With 109K miles and a transimisssion that is acting up I would recommend changing the fluid and filter as a first step. Although it has been suggested by some that a fluid and filter change did not solve their problem your van is due in any event (assuming you do not know the history). You might get lucky and it may solve your issue but either way it should be done even if your transmission was not acting up.

I would recommend siphoning out as much fluid as you can from the fill tube prior to dropping the pan.

Re: 1999 Venture transmission

if you checked for codes you would most likely get a P1870, if you search the forums and internet for that code you will find information on it. I believe its a faulty valve body.

Re: 1999 Venture transmission

Most likely it's the EPC (electronic pressure control) solenoid. The transmission has to be partially dropped to access the side pan. I have been quoted 5 to 6 hours labour plus the solenoid at a total cost of about $600.
