Unhappy missing on acceleration

I have a 2002 Buick Century 3.1, 6cyl. w/ 59,xxx miles. The problem happens when I am accelerating. When I reach 20 mph, the engine continues to rev but the car fails to accelerate and the transmission feels as if it is slipping. I took it to a good transmission mechanic, and he said there was nothing wrong with the transmission and recommended changing the fuel filter. That being done, the problems continues. The engine does this whether the car is hot or cold.

Re: missing on acceleration

Even with 59K miles it is a good idea to do the basics such as fuel and spark. Have fuel pressure checked at the injector rail to make sure fuel pump is good. Although the spark plugs and plug wires from GM are good they have been known to fail.

Since problem occurs in acceleration (open loop mode) check the MAF sensor. Also certain GM "W" body cars from 2001 - 2002 were delivered with bad CAT convertors. A clogged CAT will make the tranny look bad and the engine will exhibit signs of misfire. Have the CAT convertor tested. The Century was not on the alert or notification list but you never know. A bad CAT may or may not trigger a SES/CEL light.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad you got it resolved.

I hope everything was covered under the emissions warranty.
