Engine swap?

I have a 1979 celica (2nd gen) ok condition needs body work and misc work and I want to do a engine swap in it maby a early supra engine
or somthing I dont know i was wondering what would be my best bet as far as engine type, and, size. It has the 20r stock 90hp engine with automatic tranny in it and i want to convert it to a stick, just wondering if im wasting my time or not. Any help would be great thx!

Re: Engine swap?

you could swap an early supra engine, or a 2jzgte or a 3sgte. there are many choices and im not very familiar with the 2nd gens but im sure there is a 2nd gen sight that will have the answes for you and there are some people here that could help you.

DO you think either one would fit? I'm not sure my self as I'm not to familiar with ether of them. I think the sjz GTE is a twin turbo supra engine. Any way does any one know the cost approx of these engines and how hard a swap this would be? Also this question kinda pertains to the preceding question but how hard would it be to change a carburated engine to fuel injected?

Re: Engine swap?

they sell engine mount kits for it and the rest is fairly simple (just wiering). cost should be around $4000-$5000 depending on what gen/how much fabrication you can do or have to pay for (new driveline etc...)

Re: Engine swap?

Converting carb to EFI is way too expensive to be worth it, better to just buy a motor that is already fuel injected.
