77 Chevy and 350 Prices?

First, I am not trying to sell anything here so don't bump me!-- Honestly just curious on what things are actually worth... Seems like everybody is asking a fortune for trucks and motors-- just popped 3K on a new motor for my 92-- but when I try to sell, it looks like a couple hundred bucks is overpriced!

The motor is a 350 bored .30 over with a new steel standard crank, new pistons and assembled. The heads, carb, manifolds, starter, alternator and everything to finish are there, but not installed on the short block. I've been asking $4-500 and people are looking at me like I'm crazy. Do I really need to sell the whole thing for less than what I paid for the new crank?... ie $200????

How about the truck... a semi-clean shortbed 4x4 with a 4 spd tranny, the new motor mentioned above sitting on a stand, 16" wheels and decent "big" tires... nothing special, but not a junker truck either. Am I better off pulling the tranny and transfer case then scrapping the rest of the truck?

I negotiated down the other day to $600 for both the truck and motor... the guy laughed and said that he'd take them both off my hands for $250.... at best $400 for everything if I finish the motor and install it.-- I don't know about you, but that seems crazy to me when I can't find a piece of crap rusted 70's model Chevy around here for less than $1500 with a motor that has 200K on it.

Any advice or suggestion?

You've run into one of those dickhead buyers. They'll throw you an incredibly low and insulting number and cross their fingers. They know 99 out of 100 sellers will tell them to pound sand...but that 1 in 100 will actually take the offer.

$250 is a core price for a rebuildable sbc. If you have it on a stand and you have all the receipts for work and parts I see no reason you shouldn't be able to get $750-$1200 for it. You won't get your money out of it though. In general people are leary of 'rebuilt' motors because so many jerks do a $5 rattle can rebuild.

For the truck itself if it had the engine in it and the body was decent you could expect $1500-$3000. Check ebay for comparisons...generally once a truck hits a certain age it stops depreciating (15-20 years) Craigslist is another good comparitive source. kbb is not (for older vehicles)

Do your homework, then set your price fairly and stick by it.

out of that 3k you spent on the motor, how much was labor from machine shop. I want to rebuild my 350 with a 383 kit-375 hp and i was wondering how much a machine shop charges for rebuilding.

I wouldnt rebuild another motor,Ive got roughly 6k in a 350 rebuild, that Im quite pleased with.BUT it is still a used motor.Shop around GM is a GOOD place to start.Anything from parts, short blocks, long blocks, and complete bolt in asslemblies. For about 5k you can get complete a fuel inj 350.Add power and fuel......and launch.lol And they are brand new GM!!!Nothing better.Just start adding up the $$$$$ and you will see what I mean.
