Re: lower ball joint in a 89 si hatch HELP!!!!

my ball joints been ripped for years. but if you want to change it out, take out the whole hub and take it to a machine shop with a press. dont forget to bring them the new ball joint too. about $25 to do it here at my local machine shop.

if ball joint still good just get dust boot from dealer. like $5. also if you do decide to take ball joint out you could always pound it out with hammer (after removing snap ring) and carefully pound it in (make sure it go's in straight and dont forget snap ring). With knuckle removed from car of course. i have done it plenty times. Or you could go get it pressed in/out like superbluecivicsi mentioned. All up to you

Hit the lower control arm with a hammer near the ball joint to seperate it from the knuckle. Shocking it works much better than a butcher fork(pickle)
